Hold your Horses project
Our mission is to visit abandoned and traumatized horses in shelters and sanctuary and restore trust, understand their stories and share love.
Many of these horses have been relinquished because they don't "fit" into the old structure in which we kept horses or the manners that have been used. At these shelters the horses get a second chance to recover and we can contribute to this.
𝑣𝑎𝑛 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡
When you sign up, you will receive two days of training with the group about working safely with the horses (with trauma), different techniques of making contact, communicating with horses and working energetically. The aim of the training is to create a safe open group in which everyone can bring their own talent and strength. Then we go to a shelter for two days. Here we are there for the horses that need this. The autonomy of the horses is paramount during this project. This means that the horses can indicate themselves whether they want interaction or not.
𝐷𝑜𝑐𝑢𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑟𝑒
An important part of our project is the documentary we are making about this. Through the documentary we can reach even more people and spread the message of horse welfare. We are now broadcasting the documentary on our Hold Your Horses project YouTube Channel.
We broadcast a number of episodes per location, the first episode per location is about the shelter holder and the story of the shelter. In the following episodes we will share themes and stories of the horses and participants and we will discuss various themes related to the welfare of the horses.
Unfortunately, every year there are still a huge number of horses that are given up due to physical condition or behaviour. These horses end up at a shelter or go to slaughter. The poignant thing about this is that the horses have often suffered this physical or emotional damage through the actions of humans and the way they keep horses.
𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝐶𝘩𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒
We highlight a number of problems that arise in horses, their causes and possible solutions. The system and structure in which we have kept horses for a long time is due for change. There is an increasing amount of research, knowledge and insight being together and living with animals. We have somehow forgotten that we are part of nature. We are part of the same life energy and the more we restore the connection in this, the closer we come to ourselves and the other!
